Community Astronomy Evening





Bury Trust Astronomy Evening
Bury St Edmunds County Upper School

Come and join us explore the night sky. This Year's Astronomy Evening will offer you and your family the opportunity to: 
  • Observe the evening sky with our GCSE astronomy students
  • Find out about the search for Exoplanets and Asteroids
  • Visit a planetarium - the UK's Largest Outdoor Planetarium
  • Take part in Hands on Activities 
  • Compete against other teams in our Astronomy Quiz

The evening will begin with a talk from the University of Hertfordshire. After which, you will be able to move around the different activities. There is no need to book, however (FREE) tickets for the timed sessions in the Planetarium are available here - booking is recommended as places are limited. Please see below for a copy of the programme.

 Astronomy Evening 2016/2017

Bury Trust science staff along with our GCSE Astronomers and Trust science club students worked with Astronomers from the University of Hertfordshire on this special event. Open to KS2/3 (Year 3 - 9) pupils and their families from schools through out the local area, there were a large number of activities on offer:

A Planetarium                                                                                        

Hands on activities including  ‘How to make a Comet!’, hunt for new planets and asteroids, quizzes and much more

An Astronomy talk led by Marc Sarzi

Observations of the night sky.   

  

  
    



 Astronomy Evening 2015
Bury Trust science staff along with our GCSE Astronomers worked with Astronomers from the University of Hertfordshire on this special event. It was Open to KS2 (Year 3 - 6) pupils and their families from schools through out the local area, We had a variety of sessions during the evening, including a Planetarium, Hands on activities and observing the night sky - when it wasn't cloudy! 

After a short introduction from our lead Astronomer Marc Sarzi, families explored the different activities on offer.

Many thanks to everyone that joined us that evening and made it so successful. It was lovely to work with so many children from across Bury St Edmunds. We received some lovely feedback and we look forward to running the same event next year.
